Arrived Isle of Iona

44 hours after I left home, I stepped off the ferry and onto the island. A world away in many ways.

Today's morning ferry deposited us on the Isle of Mull. After a petrol fill-up and a cuppa and quick wi-fi access, we headed south.

The destination was a circle of stones. A gorgeous and small road led to a place to park. Following white stones we slogged across a wet and boggy meadow, eventually turning back as the bog  became impassable.

Still, it was a lovely day for a bog slog.

After a picnic of local cheese and bread, we journeyed down a side road to Ardalanish, a sheep farm whose wool is woven by Isle of Mull weavers. I could not resist.

We ended the day's drive at Fionnphort where we parked the car, walked a few blocks, and boarded the ferry for Iona.

After getting settled into the Argyll Hotel and after a wonderful meal, we walked by moon- and flashlight to the Abbey for the 9pm service.

The theme of the service was change. Be the agent of change you want to see.  How each of us has the power in our own hands to enact change.

We were given artwork. Hand prints made by members of the Iona Community. As we ate pieces of bread, we thought about one thing we could ourselves change. We then made a commitment to that action by writing it on the handprint paper and pinning our page with all the pages.

Singing hallelujahs we walked out of the Abbey and home for the night.

  1. Change is good. Often unsettling but good just the same. You're looking quite relaxed and happy. Cool photo outside the Spar market building.
